Votes and Sacks

January 26, 2011 Leave a comment

It crossed my mind – if managers of football clubs can get sacked when they don’t manage the club well, why can’t the leaders of our country get sacked when they don’t rule the country well?

It is an interesting thought. But the problem here is that managers of football clubs are under a higher authority – the owners of the clubs, or the director.

The leaders of the country are not – for instance, no one is above the Prime Minister overseeing what’s going on. Nevertheless, what I DO know is that the Prime Minister, though he is in charge of everything, he is NOT the one calling the shots all the time.

Which leads us to the next point – isn’t the PM like the owner of the club, or the director among the shareholders, and then the Cabinet under him like the managers. Then, when the Cabinet screws up, the PM can either back him up or shoot him down. If that’s the case, then why is the politics in Malaysia a great big national joke?

I guess the problem really comes when the PM fails to realize something is wrong with the way they are managing the country. It’s like, when the Cabinet screws up, the PM comes  out and say, “He is doing the right thing!” and then gives some rubbish explanation that makes no sense even to a 10-year-old.

I guess that’s what happens to football clubs (and countries) which go downhill. Sigh. Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Lecturers and other funky things

What do you do when your lecturers practically teach you  nothing?

I think this semester I’m totally on my own. Seriously. I haven’t learned much from any of them, and I dare say I’ve learned nothing…

What do you do when the weather is so cooling, so much so that you catch a cold? Personally I prefer hot to cold.. at least when you sweat you know you’re alive.. OK what did THAT mean?

What do you do when your friend doesn’t even reply your messages? I mean, I know you’re not on prepaid, so heh. I wonder, though…

Daniel is so free. He came to our room just now to bug us.

I wish I was as free as Daniel. Freely you receive, freely give.

On a different note, unlikely definitions found in the dictionary!
1. bulldozer – a sleeping male cow
2. practical joke – see “fooling someone”. fooling someone – see “practical joke”

Awesomeness rules my world!

Do you remember the times when we were little, when we argued about who has the bigger this or the better that? It would go something like this:

“Later I call xxx come kill you!”
“xxx ONLY.. I call TWO xxx come kill you!”
“I call xxx xxx xxx xxx until thousands and thousands and ten thousands of thousand million billion zillion gazillion!”
“I call xxx until infinity!”
“I call xxx until infinity times 2!”
“I call whatever you call times 2!”

Haha, brings back awesomely sweet memories.. But it got me wondering, the last sentence, did we already learn functions when we were kids? “Whatever you call times 2″… that’s f(x) = 2x no?

Food for thought.

Yesterday I wanted to grab myself a cup of ice cream. I opened the freezer and saw a tub of cookies and cream. I opened it, and found frozen fish inside.

I guess lesson 4 is that sometimes, things just aren’t what they seem to be.

New Year?

The new year has arrived. People are again into that resolution-mode (and I don’t mean 1024×768). They begin to reflect on the year that’s been and the year that is to come.

For me, there have been awesome and valuable lessons learned. It is natural, because as we grow older we learn and gain more wisdom and experience, and each one helps us along the way. The problem with people who have no wisdom is that they fail to learn from the past. Who was it that said, “Those who fail to learn from the past are condemned to repeat it.” It’s true, yet a foolish thing to do. Imagine this – someone who gets walks into a wall and then gets hit on the head. Does he then walk right back into the wall after he recovers? Certainly not! That’s a foolish thing to do, and yet sometimes we do that, metaphorically speaking.

Anyway, back to things learned in 2010:
1. When I was in Italy, the waiter came and wanted to take my order. I said, “Give us a minute.” The waiter didn’t understand. I then said, “Wait.” And he said, “Ohhhh ok…” That was when I learned simplicity is awesome. Complications are abominations.

2. Time and time again I failed to remember to do things I need to do. That was when I learned to ask others to remind me. It doesn’t have to be a person. It can be a reminder on your phone, or your diary, your organizer. Anything that works. Even writing it on the whiteboard you see everyday so that it’s right there in your face. IN. YOUR. FACE.

3. Context matters. Not only in the study of the Bible, but in our everyday conversations. This came from this image. Credits to Huizhuang’s tumblr.

4. You know what? There’s just too many and I’m lazy to list them down here. Sigh. Alright then. I’d best be off.
